China's top legislator has called for pragmatic cooperation between China and the Czech Republic in fields like trade and education.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), made the remark in his meeting with a delegation of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament headed by Lubomir Zaoralek, president of the Czech Parliament lower house.

Wu said China and the Czech Republic share a traditional friendship and have continued to build solid bilateral relations.

"We have established effective cooperation in fields like the economy and trade, and China will join hands with the Czech side to further cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples," Wu said.

Wu noted that the NPC attaches importance to the ties with the Czech Parliament and is willing to maintain frequent exchanges between the two leaders and special commissions and friendly groups, advising the two sides to strengthen exchanges in fields such as legislation in a bid to inject vitality for the bilateral relations.

He expressed his appreciation for Czech's adherence to the one-China policy.

Zaoralek said the development of ties with China has been widely acknowledged among different Czech political parties, expressing his willingness to further exchanges and dialogue with the NPC so as to continue to promote the bilateral relations.

Zaoralek reiterated that the Czech Republic will unswervingly support the one-China policy.
