Adjust font size:

The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) on Thursday donated US$50,000 to the Red Cross Society of the Philippines to help its relief efforts after a massive landslide.

The devastating landslide occurred on February 17 in Southern Leyte Province in the central Visayas region, burying a village. The disaster has left at least 94 dead, 19 injured and 982 missing, according to official figures.

President Hu Jintao sent a message of condolence to Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over the heavy casualties and property loss caused by the landslide right after the catastrophe.

The Chinese government has decided to offer US$1 million worth of emergency relief for the Philippine government to help its disaster-relief efforts.
