China Calls on Indonesia to Abide by One-China Policy
Adjust font size:

China hoped that Indonesia would honor its commitment to the one-China policy by concrete action, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said in Beijing Monday.

Li elaborated on China's stance on the Taiwan issue in a meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Hassan Wirayuda.

China hoped that Indonesia could take into consideration the overall situation of the Sino-Indonesian strategic partnership, regional peace and stability, said Li.

Li also voiced China's readiness to provide more assistance to the earthquake-hit area of Yogyakarta in Indonesia.

Noting that China and Indonesia are friendly neighbors, big and influential developing countries, Li said bilateral relations between the two countries have a sound basis.

China was willing to join hands with Indonesia to further develop the bilateral strategic partnership, he added.

Hassan said that the Indonesian government attached great importance to the strategic partnership between the two countries and was eager to strengthen dialogue and communication on key international or regional issues, and expand bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Hassan reiterated that Indonesia would continue to adhere to the one-China policy. He also expressed his appreciation to China's aid to its quake-struck areas.

In another development, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan on Monday told Hassan that China firmly supports Indonesia's efforts in maintaining national unity and appreciates its contribution to promoting China-ASEAN relations.

"To support each other on major issues concerning national sovereignty and territorial integrity is an important embodiment of China-Indonesia strategic partnership," he said.

The two countries set up strategic partnership last year, Tang said, and it signified that the bilateral ties have entered a new historical stage.

He expressed the hope that the two sides would continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, expand common interests and consensus to promote the bilateral strategic partnership.

"China is ready to join hands with Indonesia to promote China-ASEAN ties up to a new level," he said.

Hassan said Indonesia fully understands and supports China's efforts in maintaining national unity, and will firmly keep to the one-China policy.

Indonesia highly values its ties with China, and is willing to make joint efforts with the country to expand bilateral cooperation and deepen China-ASEAN relations, he said.
