Adjust font size:

President Hu Jintao on Tuesday sent a message to his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rakhmonov to congratulate him on his victory in the presidential election.

In the message, Hu extended his sincere congratulations and best wishes to Rakhmonov.

Hu said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 15 years ago, great progress had been achieved in comprehensive exchanges and cooperation in various fields like politics, trade and economy and culture. In terms of multilateral issues such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, China and Tajikistan had been mutually supportive and had intensively cooperated with each other, he added.

Rakhmonov secured a seven-year term with more than 79 percent of vote in Monday's election.

Hu said he was willing to make joint efforts with Rakhmonov to push the bilateral friendship and cooperation to a new level and to contribute to the persistent peace and stability of the region and the world as a whole.
