Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic said on Wednesday that his country were expecting all-around friendly cooperation with China to deepen the traditional friendship, said reports reaching Belgrade from the Montenegrin capital Podgorica.

 

Montenegro will continue its support to China's stand on its Taiwan province, said Vujanovic when he met Li Manchang, the first Chinese ambassador to the Balkan country.

 

Presenting his credentials to President Vujanovic, Li said that China would like to develop and strengthen the bilateral relations in political, economic and other spheres.

 

Li also said that China highly appreciated Montenegro's principled stand to adhere to the one-China policy.

 

On June 3, 2006, Montenegro declared independence after the parliament ratified the result of the independence referendum held on May 21.

 

China and Montenegro inked a joint communiqué to establish diplomatic ties in Beijing on July 16, after the Chinese government announced its recognition of Montenegro's sovereignty and independence on June 14. On July 7, China opened an embassy in Podgorica.
