Cuban, Chinese High-ranking Officials Meet to Boost Bilateral Ties

Carlos Lage Davila, Cuban vice president of the Council of State, met with visiting Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wei Jianguo in Havana Tuesday.

 

Wei was in the Cuban capital for the 19th Cuba-China Inter-governmental Commission meeting that began on March 26.

 

Lage and Wei exchanged views on the recent development of bilateral economic ties during the meeting and agreed that rapid progress was made in 2006, which witnessed a trade volume of US$1.8 billion, almost double the amount of 2005.

 

The two sides also pledged to work together to raise bilateral ties to a new level.

 

Discussions between Cuban and Chinese officials during the two-day meeting also led to an agreement on trade and economic cooperation.

 

China's Ambassador to Cuba Zhao Rongxian also attended the meeting.
