State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan said on Thursday China supports the process of the political solution to the Darfur issue.

Tang made the remark in a meeting with Nafi'a Ali Nafi'a, deputy president of the Sudanese National Congress and assistant president of Sudan.

Tang told the Sudanese guest that China hopes concerned parties and the international community will strengthen cooperation and resolve the Darfur issue in a peaceful way and through dialogues and negotiations.

"China appreciates the efforts made by the Sudanese side and related parties to promote the political solution to the Darfur issue," said Tang, adding China hopes the Sudanese side will further show flexibility in implementing the UN peace plan for Darfur.

Tang also said that China hopes Sudan will strive to improve the humanitarian and security situation in the Darfur region and further promote the national reconciliation process to realize peace and stability in the region as soon as possible.

Nafi'a said Sudan appreciates China's constructive role in promoting the political solution to the Darfur issue.

Sudan attaches great importance to the important suggestions on the issue made by President Hu Jintao during his visit to Sudan, he said.

He said Sudan has always worked hard to promote its domestic reconciliation process and is ready to work with the international community to promote the proper settlement of the Darfur issue.
