Top legislator Wu Bangguo met in Beijing Wednesday with Belarusian Defense Minister Leonid Maltsev.

Wu said China attaches great importance to bilateral relations and will make joint efforts with Belarus to lift bilateral ties to a new height.

"In recent years, the two countries have carried out sound cooperation in such areas like politics, trade, science and technology, culture and military," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress.

Wu appreciated Belarus' adherence to one-China policy.

Maltsev said he will work for closer ties between the two armed forces to facilitate nation-to-nation relations.

Maltsev arrived in Beijing Monday for a four-day official visit to China.

Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan held talks with Maltsev on Monday.
