Spain formally reaffirms adherence to one-China policy
Adjust font size:

Spain Wednesday formally reaffirmed its adherence to the one-China policy and restated its opposition to any action by Taiwan to pursue independence from China.

The document, published in the fourth China-Spain Forum which ended in Madrid Wednesday, said, "Spain reaffirms its adhesion to the one-China principle and rejects Taiwan's adoption of any actions by which it might pursue independence, including calling a referendum on its proposed incorporation into the United Nations."

The document says that Spain rejects Taiwan's joining of international or regional organizations that are reserved for nation states.

"Spain supports a peaceful solution to the Taiwan question via dialogue and exchange across the Taiwan Straits," the document said.
