Latvia: Taiwan 'referendum' will harm regional stability
Adjust font size:

Taiwan authorities' attempt to hold a "referendum on UN membership" in the name of Taiwan will sabotage regional stability, Latvian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ivars Lasis said Tuesday.

Lasis said the referendum on UN membership will not bring any changes to the status of Taiwan. In reverse, it will lead to instability across the Taiwan Straits, Lasis added.

Stressing that Latvia sticks to the one-China principle and recognizes Taiwan as an inseparable part of China, Lasis said the Taiwan issue should be solved through dialogue and negotiations by the two sides across the Taiwan Straits.

Lasis said Latvia does not and will not have official diplomatic ties with Taiwan authorities, and will not have any official cooperation and exchange with them.
