China congratulates new Thai PM

China on Tuesday hailed Thailand's new prime minister and wished the country a stable future.

"We congratulate Abhisit Vejjajiva on being elected Thai prime Minister," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao told the regular briefing on Tuesday.

Liu wished Thailand a stable future, a harmonious society, a booming economy and a good life for the Thai people.

Democrat Party leader Abhisit, 44, was elected as Thailand's new prime minister at a special voting session in the House of Representatives on Monday.
