Bangladesh's new Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and new cabinet were sworn in in the President House in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.

Bangladesh's President Iajuddin Ahmed administered the oath to Hasina first and then that to the 23 ministers of Hasina's new cabinet.

"I will be obedient to Bangladesh. I will do everything as per the constitution," Hasina said. She later signed on the oath letter.

Hasina, 61, who ruled the country as prime minister in 1996 to 2001, will be also in charge of the defense ministry.

Some 1,000 guests were invited to the ceremony including diplomats of different countries.

Hasina-led Awami League won a landslide victory in the country' s parliamentary elections held on December 29, 2008, bagging 230 seats out of all 300 parliament seats.
