Adjust font size:

The Russian Foreign Ministry is "carefully working over all situations in the DPRK rocket launch," the ministry said Sunday.

The Russian foreign ministry is "carefully working over all situations in the DPRK rocket launch to figure out what has happened," the Itar-Tass news agency reported, citing an anonymous official from the foreign ministry.

The official also urged all sides to refrain from actions "that could lead to escalation of tensions on the Korean peninsula," the RIA Novosti reported.

Russia is currently studying whether the DPRK has broken UN Security Council resolutions, and will contact the permanent members of the Council.

He noted that Russia has "expressed anxiety and concern more than once" prior to the launch.

Russia's air defense radars have detected the launch Sunday and were prepared to take actions in case the rocket altered its route, said Sergei Roshcha, the commander aide of air defense forces in the Far East.

The DPRK's official KCNA news agency reported the country had successfully launched a long-range rocket mounted with a communication satellite at 0220 GMT Sunday.
