The body of a Chinese female student was found in a river in Tasmania on Tuesday after she was reported missing on last Thursday.

A consul in Consulate General of the People's republic of China in Melbourne told Xinhua Tuesday the student was reported missing last Thursday and her body was found dumped in the Tyenna River, 60 km west of Hobart, capital of Tasmania.

According to local police, two Australians, Stavros Papadopoulos, 21, and Daniel Joseph Williams, 21, have been charged with murdering Yu, a 26-year-old Chinese student at the University of Tasmania.

She was last seen walking in Hobart about 2 a.m. on Thursday. She was wearing a black, glittery knee-length sleeveless dress.

The consul said the girl was studying in Hobart on a student visa. It is believed she was sharing a ride with the two Australians late night last Thursday.

The Chinese Consulate has urged to punish the alleged murderers and is contacting her family in China.

The University of Tasmania has more than 2,000 international students from 70 different countries. There was no previous report of such case in Tasmania, the consul said.
