Blast kills 1, wounds 30 in E. Afghanistan

Bomb attack against police in Khost province of eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday left at least one person dead and injured 30 others, mostly civilians, officials said.

"Some of our police were inside a local market for shopping when unknown man attacked with hand-grenades, killing one civilians and injuring several others including two policemen," a senior border police officer Shir Mohammad Kuchi told Xinhua.

Meantime, Doctor Zahidullah, the Deputy to Provincial Health Department, said that hospital received 30 people, mostly civilians, who got wounded in the blast.

To contain increasing Taliban activities, U.S. administration has announced to send in additional 21,000 troops to the war-torn country while a massive operation against Taliban militants, jointly launched by U.S. Marine and Afghan security forces, has been going on in the restive Helmand province since July 2.
