Adjust font size:

Police in Indonesia's West Java and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) confiscated 1.7 tons of marijuana worth around 600,000 U.S. dollars from a single raid, a senior police officer said here on Saturday.

Nugroho Aji Wijayanto, head of drug-related crimes investigation team, said they raided a house in Kampung Werung in Cicurug, Sukabumi, on Friday night. "The arrest was made after a quite long time investigation," he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.

They also arrested four suspects in the raid.

The marijuana seized in the raid were stored in 40 boxes and 107 brick-sized packages, ready to be distributed.

Nugroho said the marijuana came from Aceh and was smuggled through Indonesian capital Jakarta. It was transported by trucks and covered with fruit.

Police are tracking the leader of the gang.
