US shuts down mission in South Africa following threat

The U. S. Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, said it temporarily shuts down facilities on Tuesday following a security threat, according to reports monitored in Nairobi.

The embassy said all U. S. government facilities in South Africa "will be closed on Tuesday," in a statement posted on its website, citing the "information recently received by the Regional Security Office."

The statement indicated that the embassy may resume functions on Wednesday.
