San Francisco Symphony Orchestra to Make Debut in Shanghai

San Francisco Symphony Orchestra of the US will stage a concert at Shanghai Grand Theater on February 12, the Lantern Festival according to traditional Chinese lunar calendar.

 

Qian Shijin, art supervisor in-chief with Shanghai Grand Theater, said it would be the orchestra's first performance on the Chinese mainland.

 

Repertoire includes music by Ives, Dvork, Copland, Brahms, Mahler, and Stravinsky. Music director Michael Tilson Thomas is the conductor.

 

Before traveling to Shanghai, the orchestra is scheduled to perform in Hong Kong on February 9, 10, and 11.
