European Space Agency launches first robot freighter into space

The European Space Agency launched its first Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) into space on Sunday, French media reported.

The ATV was launched aboard an Ariane 5 rocket, from Kourou, French Guiana.

The vehicle was designed to dock automatically with the international space station.

The launch was initially scheduled for Saturday but was delayed for technical checks.
