Studying at Beihang University

Founded in 1952, Beihang University (BUAA), formerly called Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, is the principal university in aerospace technology in China. There are 44 courses leading to doctoral degree, 70 courses leading to master degree and 43 specialties leading to a bachelor degree for foreign students. BUAA is qualified to admit foreign students sponsored by Chinese Government Scholarship and accepts over 500 short and long-term foreign students from more than 20 countries annually; among them 160 are studying for master or doctoral degrees and more than 300 studying Chinese Language in the Chinese Training Center of BUAA.

International students have the following options of study at Beihang University:

Undergraduate programs;

Programs leading to master's degrees;

Programs leading to doctoral degrees;

Visiting scholar program;

The Chinese-language program.

Applicants are expected to study hard, observe the laws and decrees of the Chinese government and abide by the regulations of BUAA.

Requirement of proficiency in Chinese Language

For undergraduate programs, applicants in the academic fields of Engineering Science and Management Science should have Chinese proficiency of HSK grade 5 or above; applicants in the academic fields of Social Science must have Chinese proficiency equal to HSK grade 6 or above.

For the other four programs, applicants must have a good command of English and have the ability to take courses in English or Chinese. They are not required to take the Chinese language proficiency exam.

Application Processing

For undergraduate programs, there is an entrance exam in May or June. The results will be available two weeks later on the website of BUAA. The Admission Notice and JW202 Form will be mailed to the successful applicants around July 10th. Applicants should complete all necessary formalities and register at BUAA on time as instructed by the Admission Notice.

For other programs, if you are admitted, we will send you the "admission notice" as well as "Visa Application Form for Foreigners (Form JW202)".

Medical Insurance

According to the regulations of the Chinese government it is compulsory for foreign students to buy insurance in China during their stay.

For Undergraduate programs, Programs leading to master's/doctoral degrees and visiting scholar program, you have to pay 600 RMB per year for insurance.

For the Chinese-language program, charges are as follows:
