Editor's note: Ningqiang County in Shaanxi Province is rich in coral jade stones that are known as the "red gold of China." The coral jade stones produced here are sparkling and crystal-clear, fine and smooth, with a great variety of colors and structures. Coral jade stones can be carved into artistic works of a great variety of shapes and postures, involving living things, landscapes and historical figures that are all completely unique. Ren Yonglin, a 66-year-old man from Zhenping County of Henan Province, has been engaged in coral jade carving since he was 18 years old and his works sell well both home and abroad. Ren said he really enjoys coral jade carving and hopes this traditional skill can be inherited and passed on in the future.
