A multi-functional communications vehicle will be used for the
security of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, a security official
disclosed on Monday.
The vehicle, which looks plain but will combine the functions of
radio and wire communications, as well as microwave image and
satellite image transmissions, is expected to be capable to rush to
any emergency site to provide all-round command and deployment
assistance, said Liu Shaowu, director of the Security Department of
the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad

the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
According to Liu, the Beijing Olympic Security Coordination
Group, composed of people from 20 relevant state ministries and
municipal departments, has been working full-time since its
establishment in December 2004.

Pinpointing the volunteer work, Liu said the volunteers are one
of the four components of the security forces, which also include
the public security forces, the armed police and the security
guards. The volunteers will be assigned to some specialized
positions such as the security checks. They will mainly come from
military, armed police and public security academies and their
recruitment will begin this month.
