Pakistan Monday named a 16-member hockey squad for next month's Beijing Olympic Games, official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.

"Our endeavor was to form a combination having experience and youth in the ranks and the team announced for the grand event is capable of fetching glory", said President of Pakistan Hockey Federation, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali at a news conference at National hockey stadium after three-day trials in Lahore, capital of Punjab province.

Jamali, along with Chief selector, Islahuddin and selector, Mudassar Asghar watched the final-day trials, according to APP.

On the team's prospect in the Beijing Olympic Games, Jamali said that "it is my wish it should win the title but to be more realistic Olympics is a very tough event with little difference left between top and less known teams."

As many as 29 camp probables have been going under intensive training since the start of the camp from June 30.

Pakistan is only qualified to compete in the men's field hockey and some of its players are also going to participate in the Beijing Olympic Games with wild cards.
