Hong Kong delegation aims for breakthrough

Chinese Hong Kong's chef de mission Fok Tsun-Ting said on Thursday that his side looks to grab an Olympic medal of table tennis at the Beijing Games.

"Our players are in good form now and we hope to make breakthroughs in table tennis," said Fok Tsun-Ting after the flag-raising ceremony at the Olympic Village.

"And if they can play in a steady mood during the match, they could win a medal or even a gold maybe in miracle," he added.

Fok said that Hong Kong has sent 35 athletes, which include two sailors in Qingdao and four riders for equestrianism competition.

Among them, the duet table tennis players Ko Lai Chak and Li Ching, who achieved the double event medal at the Athens Olympics, aiming to repeat the glory four years ago at the Beijing Games.

In addition to table tennis, sailing is also one of Hong Kong's favorite event in summer Games. In Atlanta 1996, Lee Lai Shan, the most successive sailor of the delegation, claimed the gold in women's mistral event, gifting Hong Kong team its first ever Olympic gold medal.

On the upcoming competitions in Beijing, Fok said they were ready.

"Our athletes are very excited to play in Beijing and we will try our best to seek good results." said Fok.

In Athens, Ko Lai Chak and Li Ching's silver was Hong Kong team's second Olympic medal up to now.
