Chinese fencers failed to advance into the top 8 in the women's foil individual event held in Beijing on Monday.

Zhang Lei and Su Wanwen were eliminated in the round of 16 bouts, and Sun Chao was stopped in the round of 32 bouts.

Crashed by foil veteran Vezzali Maria Valentina from Italy at 7-10, Zhang Lei said she had tried her best, and she was satisfied with her performance.

China's three fencers in the men's epee individual event, including Athens silver medalist Wang Lei, also failed in the preliminaries at the Olympic Games here on Sunday.

Besides, women's sabre fencers including the runner-up in Athens Tan Xue were also stopped in the quarterfinals on the first competition day.
