Brazil overwhelms Poland in three straight sets

Brazil beat Poland 30-28, 25-19 25-18 in pool B of the Men's Volleyball tournament on August 16 and now sits in second place in the pool, one point behind Russia.

Poland's service errors were costly in the first set. Mariusz Wlazly of Poland and Andre Nascimento of Brazil led the attack for their respective teams. Poland was able to put a defensive stop on Gilberto Godoy Filho of Brazil. But other Brazilian hitters stepped-up to win the first set.

Brazil's middle hitters led the second set with attacks on the middle of the Polish court. Quick hits by Andre Heller and Gustavo Endres helped Brazil to a comfortable lead. Bruno Rezende of Brazil scored an ace to end the second set 25-19.

Michal Winiarski of Poland struggled with his attacks thanks to the Brazilian blockers, and Brazil took the third set easily by a score of 25-18.

Brazil will face Germany while Poland will face Russia on the last day of the Men's preliminary round to determine the top spot in the pool. Germany, Serbia and Egypt all have a chance at the final quarterfinal spot in the pool on the last day of the Men's preliminary round on Monday, August 18.
