Adjust font size:

Defending Olympic champion Italy is one of four teams shooting for a semifinal berth during the quarterfinal day in Women's Water Polo at the Yingdong Natatorium on Sunday, August 17.

The day starts with the 7-8 classification match between World League and European champions Russia and Athens 2004 silver medalists Greece. Both teams are winless from three matches and will finish their Olympic program with this match.

The first quarterfinal is between China and World Cup champion Australia. These two have played many times this year and hosted each other in training camps, so they know each other's play well. Unbeaten Australia has the big-game experience while China has lost two games by only one goal each.

The second quarterfinal pits Italy against European qualifier the Netherlands. Unbeaten Italy has looked good all tournament and are favored to play the semifinals.
