Maradona Diego Maradona witnesses Argentina's winning over Holland in Men's Olympic soccer quarterfinal at Shanghai Stadium on Saturday.

Soccer great Diego Maradona was cheered to the rafters by Argentine fans when he turned up at the Shanghai stadium to watch his team beat Holland in the Men's Olympic soccer quarterfinal.

Maradona, second only to Pele in soccer's all-time hall of fame, arrived at the Shanghai Stadium an hour before the kickoff.

The appearance of the Argentine national hero, who since retirement has rarely missed a chance to cheer for his homeland in major tournaments, set the stadium alight. The Argentine supporters shouted his name continuously throughout the match.

And the great man inspired his team to clinch a 2:1 victory over the Dutch, thanks to goals from Messi and Di Maria, in what was generally an evenly balanced game. Argentina now advance to the semifinal and remain favorites to retain their 2004 Olympic title.
