The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) on Tuesday expressed its firm support to the Beijing Olympic Games in the 28th AVC Board of Administration annual meeting held in Beijing.

The continental ruling body of volleyball said it opposes any attempt to mix the Olympics with politics.

"The Olympic Games is a universal sporting gathering led by the International Olympic Committee. One of its fundamental aims is to contribute to world peace, friendship and collaboration among the people all over the world," the AVC said in a statement sent to Xinhua News Agency.

"It is a grand sporting festival for all the athletes and all the people around the world. The Olympics should not be mixed with politics. Boycott to the Olympic Games is against the Olympic Charter and the Olympic spirit," said the AVC.

"AVC, therefore, declares that AVC fully and strongly supports the Beijing Olympic Games, opposes any boycott attempt and rejects any intent to use the Olympic Games for political ends."

AVC said it is impressed with Beijing's preparations for the Olympics.
