Asian champion eyes on Olympic gold in women's discus throw

Winning the gold medal at an Olympic test event, Asian champion Li Yanfeng of China said she would expect the Olympic gold in women's discus throw.

Li finished at 63.79 meters at the China Athletics Open in the Bird's Nest, or the National Stadium.

Song Aimin of China and Dani Samuels of Australia won the silver and bronze, at 63.74 and 62.65 meters respectively.

Li said, "I'm extremely excited to win the gold and feel the Bird's Nest can bring me luck."

"I'm expecting to get the gold medal in the Olympic Games and I'll try my best," she said.

The silver medalist Song said, "It's my season best which means a lot to me."

"It's a good practice for the Olympics and I gained valuable experience from it," she said.

Samuels said the weather was hot. "But it will be much hotter in August," she said.
