Spanish TV network set for Olympic marathon

Television viewers in Spain will be able to sit back in two weeks and enjoy around the clock coverage of the Beijing Olympics.

The Spanish state television station (TVE) is planning comprehensive coverage of the Games in which almost every sport will get its moment of glory.

"We are going to cover everything, except for baseball and softball," TVE reporter Lourdes Garcia told Xinhua.

Garcia, who will be one of the faces of TVE in Beijing, explained the massive effort TVE is making to cover this year's Olympics.

"There are going to be 21 hours coverage every day on our main channel TVE 1, while on our Teledeporte channel, we will be giving 24 hour, around the clock coverage and we will also be giving 24 hour coverage on our High Definition (HD) channel."

"We also have a website specially set up for the Games, where there will be lots of additional information," she said.

All of the coverage needs equipment and journalists.

"TVE is taking 200 people to China, including 25 journalists to cover all sports. That may seem like a lot, but actually it isn't that many for what we are doing. The BBC, for example have 437 people out there, while NBC will have 1,200 people working for them," said Garcia.
