First batch of Chinese hockey, baseball athletes move into Olympic Village

The first batch of some 80 members of the Chinese hockey and baseball teams moved into the Beijing Olympic Village on Friday.

About 36 athletes from the men's and womens' hockey team, 24 baseball players and team offcials, were welcomed by the village staff after they checked in.

"Two athletes share one room in the village and the facilities and environment here are pretty good," said Lu Huaimin, doctor with the Chinese baseball team.

Some Chinese athletes bought Olympic souvenirs at the shop in the internation zone and some got free enviroment-friendly T-shirt at the exchange center for commemorative medals.

Cui Dalin, vice minister of the State General Administration of Sport of China, told the press that more Chinese teams participating in the Olympic Games would check in at village in the following several days.

"We felt very honored to be the host of the Beijing Games," he said.

Being set up in Beijing last Friday, The Chinese Olympic delegation consists of 1,099 members, including 639 athletes who will compete in all the 28 sports for the first time.
