The two Koreas are still in talks on their athletes entering the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games together, Lee Yun-taek, president of the South Korean Olympic Committee, told reporters on Tuesday.

"We are all trying our best to make it true," said Lee during the flag-raising ceremony of South Korean delegation in the Beijing Olympic Village.

The DPR Korean delegation had the ceremony on Monday.

"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) are also working on to solve this problem," said Kim Jung-hyung, chef de mission of the South Korean delegation. "The South Korea and DPR Korea went to the opening ceremony of Olympic Games twice in 2000 and 2004. I hope it will happen again in Beijing."

"All our athletes are now training hard to get a good result in the Beijing Olympics. They now have adjusted themselves in their best form and we believe they will show their best."

South Korea's first Olympic Games' appearance was in London, Britain, in 1948. And it waited 28 years before winning its first Olympic gold medal, when wrestler Yang Jung-mo claimed the honour at the 1976 Montreal Games. Since 1984 South Korea has won at least six medals in every of the Games.

The Korean martial art taekwondo was introduced to the Olympic program in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. South Korean athletes dominated the sport, with all four entrants winning medals, including three golds and one silver medal. They added two golds and two bronzes to their tally in 2004.

South Korea hosted the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, the capital, and finishing with its best Olympic haul to 33 medals, including 12 golds. The nation finished fourth in the medal tally as host.
