Afghan president leaves for Beijing

Afghan President Hamid Karzai left Kabul for China's capital Beijing on Thursday to attend the inaugural ceremony of Olympic Games on Aug. 8, a statement of Afghan Presidential Palace released in Kabul said.

"At the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao, the Afghan president left for Beijing today to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games," the statement said.

President Karzai would hold talks with the Chinese president Friday and exchange views on Kabul-Beijing relations, China's support to Afghanistan, war on terror and construction of road between Afghanistan and China, it added.

More than 80 heads of states and governments have been invited to the inauguration ceremony of 2008 Olympic Games, which will open in Beijing on Friday, according to the statement.
