A grand show by college students in Beijing debuted Monday night to promote the Olympic Games to be held next August in this capital city.

The songs, dances, recitations and martial art performances showcased the history of the Olympic movements and the efforts Chinese people have made to bid and prepare for the Games in the past decade.

"The performances are also a display of the patriotic passion and healthy and upward spirits of Chinese students," said Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, after watching the show Monday night.

Such performances should be staged for Chinese athletes who are going to compete in the Olympic Games in Beijing next year, and at universities in the capital city, and in major cities around the country as well, he said.
