Former AL official condemns disruption of torch relay
Adjust font size:

The recent violent disruptions of the Beijing Olympics global torch relay were against the spirit of the Games, Mohamed El Saket, former ambassador of the Arab League to China, told Xinhua in a telephone interview Thursday.

He spoke of the disruptions of the Olympic torch relay in London and Paris caused by a small number of "Tibet independence" activists.

This shows that some western countries with unjust opinions on China are attempting to raise some problems, he stressed, adding that he is confident that the 2008 Beijing Olympics will be successful.

"When China wants to do something, she does it properly," he added.

The Arab countries fully support China in hosting a successful and glorious Olympic Games, El Saket said.

The 29th Olympic Games is slated for Aug. 8 in Beijing and the Olympic torch relay completed its sixth leg in San Francisco on Thursday.
