Five Olympic gold medals winner Ian Thorpe took the Olympic torch to the finish line at 11:30 in Commonwealth Park and later lit the community cauldron, which quickly went out.

The Chinese torch attendants moved in to relight the cauldron with the Olympic flame.

People were waiting peacefully for the torch carried by Jon Clark, the famous long-distance runner of the 1950s and 60s, and saw him lighting the torch of Ian Thorpe, who then lighted the couldron to finalize the torch relay.

The whole torch relay was peaceful and wonderful, a police guarding the spot told Xinhua.
