Olympic torch leaves Taiyuan for Datong

The curtain closed on the Taiyuan leg of the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay at 11:10 a.m. on Thursday as Guo Fenglian, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), lit the cauldron.

The Taiyuan leg drew crowds of locals who came out as early as 7:00 a.m. to show their support.

Covering a distance of 11.2 kilometers, the Taiyuan leg involved 208 torchbearers.

The flame will leave for Datong, where the Torch Relay is scheduled for Friday.
