The ceremony started at the city's main square. The honor to be the first torchbearer fell to Tian Yu, a hero during the May 12th earthquake.

296 torchbearers carried the flame past the city's most famous landmarks. There were torchbearers from several ethnic groups, adding to the diversity of the torch relay.

Lanzhou was one of the most important towns along the ancient silk road. Now it's one of the most modernized cities in northwest China. The last torchbearer was renowned CCTV presenter Zhu Jun, he lit up the cauldron, marking the conclusion of the Lanzhou relay.
