Located in northeastern Henan, Kaifeng, the largest city in the world during the 11th Century, served for a time as capital of seven dynasties, including the Wei, the Liang and the Han and the Northern Song dynasties. The city is also home to five million and was the second stop of the sacred flame's 4-day leg in Henan, the country's most populous province.

The torch will leave for the next relay in Luoyang, China's "city of peonies", which boasts the magnificent Longmen Buddhist Caves and the country's oldest Buddhist temple.
