Athletics Day 6 Evening Session Preview: 13 gold medals to be won

100m events will the focus for Saturday's Athletics competition, with four of the 13 gold medals to be decided over this distance.

100m

The Men's 100m - T13; the Men's 100m - T35; the Men's 100m - T52; and the Women's 100m - T42 will be the showcase events in an action-packed evening.

In the Men's 100m - T13, Russia's Alexey Labzin set a Paralympic record (10.98 seconds) in Saturday morning's first heat, but his time was bettered when Jason Smyth of Ireland set a world record (10.81s) in the following heat. Both these athletes should post strong performances in the final.

200m

Gold medals will be decided in three 200m events: the Women's 200m - T13; the Men's 200m - T44; and the Men's 200m - T53.

In the Men's 200m - T44, Oscar Pistorius was the fastest qualifier (22.71s) in the heats. He is one of two South African athletes in the final.

There will be three representatives from the United States, including Jim Bob Bizzell, the second-fastest qualifier in 23.22s, who will be Pistorius's main competition.

In the Women's 200m - T13, the world record (24.45s) will be under threat. Morocco's Sanaa Benhama qualified fastest (25.37s) in the heats, ahead of Cuban Omara Durand (25.97s).

In the Men's 200m - T53, only 0.02 seconds separated the top three qualifiers. Yu Shiran (China), Richard Colman (Australia) and Josh George (United States) qualified for the final in 26.79s, 26.80s and 26.81s seconds, respectively.

400m

In the Men's 400m - T12, China's Li Yansong will be hoping to improve on his Athens 2004 bronze medal. He was fastest in Thursday's heats, with a time of 49.75 seconds.

Li will be wary of Luis Goncalves from Portugal who was impressive in the heats, with a time of 49.81s.

Reigning Paralympic silver medalist Aliaksandr Kouzmichou of Belarus misses the semifinals after failing to finish his heat.

In Friday night's semifinal, Germany's Matthias Schroder was the fastest qualifier in 50.11s.

800m

The track endurance men will be out in force in the Men's 800m - T54.

Great Britain's David Weir was the fastest qualifier (1:36.24) in the heats, and also in the semifinals (1:34.27).

1500m

In the Men's 1500m - T13, Henry Kiprono Kirwa of Kenya qualified fastest (4:00.99) from Wednesday night's heats and will head into the final as the favorite.

Field events

Gold medals for the Women's Javelin Throw - F33/34/52/53; the Women's Discus Throw - F40; and the Men's Shot Put - F37/38 will also be decided.
