Day 6 Review: Hard fought opening contests in Team events

The Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games Table Tennis Teams competition began today at the Peking University Gymnasium.

Men's Team - Class 9/10

Sweden, Netherlands, and Ukraine emerge victorious with Ukraine's Yuriy Shchepanskyy standing out as the most successful player. He remained unbeaten in leading his team to victory.

The closest encounter was a duel between the United States and Ukraine but Schepaskyy came out on top. In the decisive match he beat Mitchell Seidenfeld of the United States 3-0 to secure the win.

Women's Team - Class 4/5

Jordan, Chinese Taipei, Serbia, Sweden and Italy were winners.

Jordan's Fatmeh Al-Azzam and Khetam Abuawad, Tsai Hui-Chu of Chinese Taipei, Borislava Peric of Serbia, Ingela Lundback of Sweden emerged as the top players. Their unbeaten performance guided their respective teams to victory.

Men's Team - Class 1/2

Slovakia, Austria, and France beat their quarterfinal opponents to advance.

Jan Riapos of Slovakia and Hans Ruep of Austria were the top players of the round.

Men's Team - Class 4/5

Sweden, Chinese Taipei, China, Serbia and Germany overcame their opponents in the 1/8 finals of Men's Team Class 4/5.

Lin Yen-Hung of Chinese Taipei proved to be the most successful player. He remained unbeaten to secure victory for his team.

A close call was seen between Italy and Serbia with Ilija Durasinovic of Serbia the final victor and in the duel between Germany and Hong Kong, China, Germany's Dietmar Kober was the hero. Durasinovic beat out Nicola Molitierno of Italy, while Kober beat Tsang Tit Hung of Hong Kong, China for the victory.
