Editor’s note: Jingdezhen in Jiangxi Province has a 1,700-year history of pottery and porcelain making, and its products have been exported to all parts of the world since the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Many artists are drawn to this ancient city to learn about the area’s successful and advanced ceramics technologies every year. According to Jingdezhen’s official statistics, over 20,000 artists "drifting along" here annually, about 1,200 of which come from overseas.

A considerable number of these artists have studied Jingdezhen pottery techniques since childhood or have inherited knowledge of the technique from older generations. [Photo/China.org.cn]
