As the third largest salt lake in the country and the second largest in the Tibet autonomous region, the splendor of Lake Namtso challenges attempts to depict it in words. Standing high on Zhaxi Island, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the lake, its waters rippling gently beneath the highland. The particular geographic condition greatly supports the hypothesis that the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau rose from the sea bottom. [Photo by Sun Tao / China.org.cn]
