Roddick announced on his Website that Larry Stefanki will begin working with him during the offseason and travel with him in 2009 as the new coach. Jimmy Connors resigned as Roddick's coach early in the 2008 season.

Stefanki, a former player who reached a career-high ranking of No. 35, has coached John McEnroe, Chilean Marcelo Rios, Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia and Britain's Tim Henman. Stefanki most recently coached 2007 Australian Open runner-up Fernando Gonzalez. Roddick won the 2003 US Open under Brad Gilbert and finished that year at No. 1 in the rankings. He ended the 2008 season at No. 8.
