Shandong Luneng claimed the Chinese Super League title on Sunday with Shanghai Shenhua as the runner-up after the two teams both ended their last round matches with ties.

Shandong already took the lead before the last match with two points ahead of Shanghai and eventually secured its leading position in Jinan when Shanghai failed to accomplish victory against Zhejiang on another battlefield.

Host team Shandong Luneng played Guangzhou Yiyao at Jinan Sunday with 0-0 in the final match for the 2008 season, while Shanghai Shenhua also equaled its rival Zhejiang Lvcheng with 2-2 during a concurrent match at home.

Shandong collected 63 points with 18 wins, nine draws and three losses during the whole season to achieve its third championship in Chinese Super League. They also won in 1999 and 2006.
