China eyes more freestyle skiing medals at Vancouver Olympics

China looks to win more than one gold and one silver in freestyle skiing they got at the Turin Olympic Games four years ago in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, a top officials said on Sunday.

"We have made a lot of progress in freestyle skiing in the past season, and I firmly believe that we can make a breakthrough in Vancouver," said Zhao Yinggang, director of Winter Sports Center of China's State General Administration of Sports, made these remarks during a World Cup race here.

At the first two legs of the World Cup event, China grabbed one gold and two silver medals.

Zhao Shanshan surprised all to win the title of the women's freestyle aerials and her teammate and Olympic silver medalist Li Nina finished second.

In the men's events, Li Ke got a silver. And don't forget Olympic champion Han Xiaopeng, who was absent from the competition because of a knee injury.

"Zhao will boost our confidence in the preparation for the 2010Winter Olympic Games," said Ji Dong, a coach of the Chinese national team, after the match.

Han was the Olympic champion in Turin and Li Nina won a silver.

Joe Fitzgerald, an FIS freestyle skiing coordinator, said that FIS has paid close attention to China's freestyle skiing in recent years.

"I am looking forward to better performances for the team in Vancouver," he said.
