Raul Gonzalez scored his club record 308th goal yesterday and then added another in Real Madrid's 4-0 win over Sporting Gijon in the Spanish league.

Raul turned in Sergio Ramos' low cross with the inside of his left foot in the 15th minute to surpass Alfredo di Stefano and become Madrid's all-time leading scorer with 308 goals in official competitions. The 31-year-old Raul added No. 309 in the 76th after jumping on a loose rebound inside the box.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar finally scored his first goal for Madrid after six games and Marcelo got his first of the season.

Madrid's eighth straight victory put it 10 points behind Barcelona, which drew 2-2 at Real Betis on Saturday to snap a 10-game winning run.

Also, Villarreal's Santiago Cazorla moved past one defender and then sent a low shot through two others in the 44th minute to keep the team fighting for a Champions League spot after a 1-1 draw with Racing Santander. Nikola Zigic scored for the hosts with a header in the 25th.

Barcelona leads the league with 60 points from 23 games, followed by Madrid with 50. Sevilla, which beat Espanyol 2-0 with two late goals from Frederic Kanoute, is next with 41 points. Valencia, which drew 1-1 with Malaga on Saturday, and Villarreal have 38.

Also yesterday, it was: Almeria 3, Valladolid 2; Athletic Bilbao 1, Recreativo Huelva 1; Numancia 0, Mallorca 1; and Atletico Madrid 1, Getafe 1.

Raul, playing in his 15th season with the Spanish champions, needed 504 games to Di Stefano's 401 to set the mark after scoring his 10th goal in 18 matches this season.

Madrid was without Dutch trio Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Rafael Van der Vaart at El Molinon, but Huntelaar finally scored his first Madrid goal in his sixth appearance since a January move from Ajax.

The Netherlands international ran onto Gonzalo Higuain's flick-on in the 37th to slot a right-footed shot under goalkeeper Inaki Lafuente.
