Russian swimmer breaks women's 50m backstroke world record

Russian swimmer Anastassia Zueva set a new world record for women's 50m backstroke here on Tuesday.

During the preliminary contest at the Russian swimming championships, Zueva clocked 27.48 seconds to chop 0.19 seconds off the original record, which was created by Australian Sophie Edington at Australian Olympic trials in March 2008.

Zueva was 19 years old and from the region of Penza in central Russia, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

Another Russian swimmer Yulia Efimova created a new European record of women's 100m breaststroke with 1 minute and 5.80 seconds on Monday.
