South China breezes into AFC Cup quarterfinal
Adjust font size:

Hong Kong soccer powerhouse South China whitewashed Home United of Singapore 4-0 Tuesday and booked a place in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Asian Football Association (AFC) Cup.

South China took control soon after the match began and Kowk Kin-Pong headed in the first goal for South China in the 20th minute after the forward had wasted several chances.

The home crowd were on their feet again only two minutes later as Caca doubled the lead for South China. His delightful ball over the top set teammate Li Haiqiang free and the skipper slipped a low finish under the advancing Lewis.

The Hong Kong league champions continued to press in the second half. The third goal came in the 52nd minute as Caca powered into the box and beat an exposed goalkeeper of Home United with a low finish at his near post.

In the 69th minutes, Li Haiqiang scored the fourth goal for South China with a penalty kick and this was his second goal in the match.
